The Red Wings are now tied with the Penguins for most points in the NHL. Chris Osgood completed his journey to 400 career wins in the NHL. Here is the game recap:
Early in the game, Matt Duchene scored at the 3:39 mark of the 1st period, giving the Av's an early 1-0 lead. But it didn't take long for the game to become tied up. With 5:35 played, Detroit scored on a power play, the goal went to Jiri Hudler. but with 6:21 played, TJ Gillardi of the Av's regained the lead. Quick scoring was a big notice early in this game. It only took another 6 minutes for the Wings to tie the game up again. A power play goal by Johan Franzen, at 12:32 had the Wings in control by the end of the period.
The Second period didn't have any scoring, quiet second period led to the third period.
The third period went deep with no scoring. Nothing was happening, until with 14:37 played, Nicklas Lidstrom scored his 10th, giving the Wings a 3-2 lead late. It stayed that way until the Av's scored on a power play goal with 17:29 by Matt Duchene. That kept the game tied into Overtime.
In Overtime, both teams had many shots, but none went through, until Kronwall, at the 3:42 mark, shot a slap shot passed Budaj ending the game, and giving the Wings the 4-3 win. Giving Osgood his 400th career win.
Chris Osgood made 46 saves on 49 shots, and earned the win, playing as hard as he did at 38. The Wings are now at 50 points, tied for the best record in the NHL.
