Wings fall to Flyers 3-2 the day after New Years, dont get a point
Sometimes Wins and losses can come at the weirdest times. The Flyers were 0-14-2 the last 23 years at the Joe until January 2nd, 2011.The Flyers pulled a close one out, winning 3-2 before a late surge by the Red Wings. Here is the recap:
The First period went underway, with mostly just penalties and an even amount of shots from both teams, but the second period was very different.
The Second period had three goals, all Flyers goals, the first scored by James van Riemsdyk his 9th not even a minute into the game at 51 seconds. then at 5:32 Daniel Carcillo got one passed Howard to put the score at 2-0 Flyers. Not to long later, did Scott Hartnell score at 14:24. The Flyers then had a 3-0 lead. Dominating the second period, but not without a Wings comeback.
The Third Period had many surprising moments, including Valtteri Filppula's goal, his 10th at 51 seconds into the third period. It stayed that way until 12:28 played, when Henrik Zetterburg scored his 14th goal of the season, getting the score to 3-2, where it remained until the buzzer ending the third period.
Too little, too late for the Wings. Despite a hard worked third period, the rest of the game belonged to the Flyers, who ended their 23 year losing drought at the Joe.
